South Florida Ideas Exchange 2008 May 8-11th Events!
The South Florida Ideas Exchange presents an unparalleled line up where you can you find a world class international dive competition, health task force program on physical wellness, optimal nutrition and positive healthy lifestyles, cultural diversity programs, educational forums, transportation discussion, and environmental and conservational presentations. The 2008 program is the first of its kind in South Florida, combining elements from three neighboring counties, Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade, for future collaboration and coordination for its first campaign “Become the Solution”. “This year, the program is set up to showcase where we are as a community and how we can have an open discussion to further our programs and objectives. Essentially, we are setting the agenda for communities to work together for the long haul”, says Devin Avery, Executive Director of VisionBROWARD a community economic development partnership for the future.
Executive Committee Member of the program, Alan Levy notes, “VisionBROWARD was set up to be a visioning unit for Broward’s diverse region. This program takes the vision one step further to include the tri county region to address the concerns and goals for the future.”
While the Cultural Division is presenting a forum on “Animating Democracy Partners with Local Arts Agencies on NEA-Supported Arts and Civic Engagement Forums Nationwide”, the Nutrition and Fitness Task Force, led by the United Way, will promote its mission and vision to promote physical wellness, optimal nutrition and positive healthy lifestyles through community collaboration.

South Florida Ideas Exchange 2008 May 8-11th Lineup!

May 8th- 11th- International Swimming Hall of Fame presents the 38th Annual Diving with the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix. This Olympic preview will feature the top Olympic divers in the world, including gold medalists, world champions and Olympians from the USA, China, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Germany, Italy and many more. The Diving Extravaganza will also feature comedy and clown diving exhibitions and a “Dreaming of Beijing” Asian Cultural Festival, with demonstrations of Asian cooking, martial arts, music, dancing and singing - and a special appearance by the Beijing 2008 Olympic mascots. The event is also a featured program of the South Florida Ideas Exchange program run by Vision BROWARD. Special VIP receptions hosted on May 8th and 9th.

sponsored by CORPRA in conjunction with Je dis Culture, located at the Gold Choice Ballroom. The cost is $5. There will be dancers, art, and traditional Haitian faire.

Broward County Cultural Division presents “Arts and Civic Engagement” designed to link cultural resources to civic concerns, the sessions are designed as practical, skill-building workshops that will bring together local arts organization leaders, artists, social service and community partners to learn and share concepts, principles, and best practices of arts-based civic engagement and dialogue based on the findings of the Animating Democracy initiative.
The Environmental Committee has identified four main business topics for presentation and discussion in English, Creole, and Spanish: Alternative Water Supply Solutions for South Florida, Alternative Energy Solutions for South Florida, Hands on interactivity in the Marketplace, and Sustainable Development in South Florida
Florida Association of Nonprofit Organziations, Inc. (FANO) Expo and Marketplace with discussion on the future of nonprofits and charitable organizations, individual missions and public policy udates.
Broward County Health Department in conjunction with United Way’s Nutrition and Fitness Task Force presents exhibition and workshop on pledge to health for all ages with keynote speaker Mark Bergel.

The Redevelopment Committee headed by James Carras and Jennifer Gomez present a forum on the future of Broward County and opportunities for redeveloping our existing communities and neighborhoods. “The county is essentially built out and sprawl is not part of anyone’s smart growth future. To that end, there will be a number of “redevelopment” opportunities for the Ideas Exchange including a 90 minute panel presentation and discussion by experts (a CRA Director, a representative of the SR7 Collaborative and a Developer).”
Mike Singh presents a special program on South Florida, in the context of the Gulf Cooperation Council and India as a place for investment, trade, and technology transfer.
The Education Committee will present experts from the fields of K-12 to discuss post-secondary, and workforce development education and how to improve the state of education in the State of Florida.
Mike Greene of Video Dynamics Corporation and head of the Media Committee says, “The Ideas Exchange may be the first vehicle in many years to involve the mass media in those issues that will affect the future of our region. By getting them to participate in the Ideas Exchange, we are helping them to become a major part of our community. They will help us reach the millions of people who will be affected by what happens in the next few years.”

The Environmental Commission will address citizen concerns in English, Creole, and Spanish: Water Conservation Solutions for South Florida, Energy Conservation Solutions for South Florida, Hands on interactivity in the Marketplace, and Community Sustainable Initiatives in South Florida.
Florida Association of Nonprofit Organziations, Inc. (FANO) will present marketing and self-regulation in the Non Profit Sector and Special Awards. Other topics to be covered include: using technology to advance your mission, volunteerism, civic engagement, and management capacity.

The Redevelopment Committee will host a 75 minute Town Hall meeting on redevelopment with opportunities for residents to voice their ideas about future growth in addition to another 90 minute panel presentation and discussion by experts. At the Town Hall meeting, residents will be able to state their opinions, sketch or draw plans and renderings under the guidance of planning and architecture students and visit a “showcase” of Community Redevelopment Agencies that will promote their communities’ plans and initiatives.
6:00pm, Mardi Gras Gaming will present a Hot Latin themed night open to the public in honor of Cinco de Mayo including entertainment, a buffet dinner, and a $20 bonus card for $20.
